CANDLE CARE
Candle Care Essentials
-
NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE BURNING UNATTENDED. This is the single most important thing you can do to prevent a fire.
-
Place candles in a draft-free area. A candle flame that is in a draft will not burn properly. This can cause your candle to burn unevenly and possibly make it tunnel.
-
Keep burning candles away from children and pets. Both children and pets can accidentally knock a candle over or off a table, creating a mess or possibly starting a fire.
-
Never leave wick trimmings, matches, or any other material in the wax pool as these can create a fire hazard. Remove cut-off pieces of wick or other debris that fall into the candle wax as this can reignite, causing the candle flame to grow significantly larger than what is safe for that specific candle, even if it’s contained.
-
Keep your burning candles away from any flammable objects.
-
Dispose of all packing materials or foreign matter before lighting a candle.
-
Always place candle on a heat-resistant holder. When the candle burns down to the bottom of the container there could be enough heat to damage the furniture on which the candle is sitting.
-
Handle burning container candles with care. The melted wax and flame can cause the containers to be too hot to handle. T
-
Discontinue use when the wax level is from 1/4 to 1/2 from the bottom of container to avoid the possibility of the container cracking.
-
Limit Burn Time Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Prolonged burning can cause the candle to overheat, potentially leading to a larger flame, soot, or even cracking the container. After 4 hours, let the candle cool and solidify before relighting.
-
The first burn is the most important since blowing it out before it melts all the way across can form “candle memory rings”. And every time you burn it after, the ring will form deeper and deeper, creating a tunnel that dims the flame.
An even burn is crucial for maximizing the life of your candle. Here are some tips on how to get a candle to burn evenly to avoid common issues like tunneling and uneven wax. Follow these tips to achieve a balanced glow that dances elegantly across your space:
-
Let the Wax Pool: When you light a candle for the first time, allow it to burn about 4 hours until the wax pool reaches the edge of the container. This is how to fix candle tunneling while promoting an even burn.
-
Trim the Wick: Before each burn, trimming the wick helps prevent soot buildup and helps the candle burn evenly. Read on for a step-by-step process on how to trim candle wicks.
-
Keep Away from Drafts: If you want to reduce flickering and smoke, keep your candle away from drafts.
A General Wooden Wick Candle Care Guide
When using wooden wick candles, follow these guidelines for best results:
-
Trim the wick regularly: Trim the wooden wick to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch before each use to maintain a clean burn.
-
Ensure an even burn: Allow the wax pool to reach the edges of the container during each burn to prevent tunneling. Burn about 4 hours.
-
Avoid drafts: Place the candle away from drafts to prevent flickering and uneven burning.
-
Extinguish properly: Use a wick dipper to gently dip the wooden wick into the wax pool to extinguish the flame without smoke or soot.
-
Monitor safety: Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
-
Enjoy responsibly: Enjoy the soothing ambiance and fragrance of your wooden wick candle, but always practice safe burning habits.
Wax Melting Guide
Your wax melts will produce a great scent throw for the associated melt-time, but here are a few care instructions that will ensure you maximize the life of your wax melts:
-
Store your wax melts in its container, in a cool, dry place. Ideally your wax melts should be stored away from direct light, artificial and natural, to ensure color does not fade.
-
The size of your room matters in regards to the strength of the scent throw. A larger room will require more wax melts for a strong scent throw. Our wax melts produce a great scent throw within the first 10 - 20 minutes of melting. To ensure a great scent throw, allow your wax melts to completely melt. Be sure to melt wax in a well-ventilated area.
-
Do not add too many wax melts to your warmers. This may cause hazardous spills. Know the limits of your warmer before use of wax melts.
-
Remove all packaging before melting your wax.
-
Only use in tea-light warmers or UL listed electric warmers approved for wax melts. Be sure to read and follow all instructions for your warmer before first use.
-
Do not melt wax on stove or in a non-approved appliance.
-
Never leave melted wax unattended around children or pets.
-
Be sure to clear the wax surface of any dust or debris before your next melt.
-
Always cover wax after it is completely cooled. This will prevent any dust or debris from collecting on the wax's surface and causing a fire hazard. This will also ensure a great scent throw with each melt and extend the life of your wax melts.
-
Discontinue use when less than 1/2 of wax remains or wax no longer produces a scent. Melting the wax beyond this point is a fire hazard.
-
Please be sure to properly dispose of wax. Do not pour down drains or in toilet. Pour used wax back in original container. Be careful as the wax will be hot. Allow to completely cool before disposing.
